Naíscoil Ghleann Darach was founded by local parents in November 2001 to provide Irish-medium pre-school education.
Since then it has continued to grow and is now situated in a purpose built facility with an outside play area and a capacity for 24 children. The Naíscoil has a recurring number of government funded pre-school places. PEAGS).The Na scoil leader is a fully qualified teacher and the two assistants are both NVQ Level 3 trained and fluent Irish speakers.
Gaelscoil Ghleann Darach* opened its doors to 8 pupils in September 2006 and has continued to develop in tandem with the Naíscoil. Pupil enrolment now stands at 30 and continues to grow yearly as the school matures. The school received Department of Education recognition in October 2007, and was officially opened in June 2008 by the Minister, Catríona Ruane.At present, there are 2 teachers, supported by 2 classroom assistants, catering for pupils up to (and including) P5, and it is fully anticipated that a third teacher will be appointed in preparation for the next school year. The pupils education is presently being delivered in two fully equipped classrooms on a temporary site with plans to move in the near future to a more spacious permanent site.
*Gleann Darach, meaning Oak Glen, is the original name associated with the Crumlin area.
